“Coming off a second place finish at the Des Moines Escape Triathlon last weekend and a first place finish at the Philadelphia Escape Triathlon, I was feeling great going into this race,” said 2017 Nation’s Triathlon Winner Jason West. “I struggled a bit on the bike, but stayed strong and positive and made it up on the run, it was a great day.”

Athletes endured a 1.5k swim in the historic Potomac River, past the Arlington Cemetery and under the Memorial Bridge; a 40k flat and fast bike ride past the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial and Kennedy Center; and on a challenging and beautiful 10k single loop run past the Jefferson Memorial, National Holocaust Museum, U.S. Mint and more.

“After my second place finish at the Des Moines Escape Triathlon, I am thrilled to take home the win today,” said 2017 Nation’s Triathlon Champion Sarah Haskins. “I really loved the fast course and historic Washington D.C. is such a beautiful place for a race.”

The pros joined more than 2,000 triathletes ranging in age from 18 to 83 years of age, including more than 24 Special Olympic participants. New this year, the Nation’s Triathlon will serve as a qualifying race for the 2018 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. The top three Olympic finishers per age group will receive coveted entry slots into the iconic San Francisco race. First place finishers in each age group will also win a complimentary race entry.
