Surf City Escape Triathlon Returns To Huntington Beach, California On Sunday, April 28, 2019

Registration Opens Monday, May 14, 2018

LOS ANGELES – (May 9, 2018) – Following the success of the inaugural Surf City Escape Triathlon, IMG, a global leader in sports, events, media and fashion, announced today that the Surf City Escape Triathlon will return to Huntington Beach, California on Sunday, April 28, 2019. As part of the Escape Triathlon Series, this race will once again serve as the last chance qualifier for the iconic 2019 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Surf City Escape Triathlon will feature a pro field vying for a $20,000 prize purse, as well as Olympic, Sprint and Aqua Bike race categories for age group participants. Registration opens on Monday, May 14, 2018.

“We were so stoked to have hosted the inaugural ‘Surf City Escape Triathlon’ in Huntington Beach,” said Mayor Mike Posey. “Perfect weather, waves and overall conditions make Huntington Beach the ideal location for these triathletes. We look forward to welcoming athletes, families, friends and fans back to Surf City for the 2019 event.”

Surf City Escape Triathlon’s Olympic distance course begins with a challenging 1-mile open water swim in the Pacific Ocean. Next, a 24-mile double-loop bike course will take athletes along the breathtaking Pacific Coast Highway. Coveted road closures will allow plenty of room for a safe, flat and fast ride while providing ideal race viewing for spectators. Lastly, a 6.2-mile run will turn up the challenge, taking athletes back to the beach for a partial deep sand run, and onwards to a spectator-friendly beachfront finish.

“The inaugural Surf City Escape Triathlon was my first race in California and it was awesome,” said 2018 Surf City Escape Triathlon Winner Jason West. “The big surf made the swim very challenging as did the deep sand portion of the run, making for a true California experience. I’ll be back in in 2019 – and look forward to defending my title.”

The Surf City Escape Triathlon is owned and produced by IMG. For more information, visit or follow on, @EscapeSeriesTri on Instagram and @EscapeSeriesTri on Twitter. As part of the Escape Triathlon Series, the first-place Olympic male and female finisher in each age group will receive a coveted entry slot into the 2019 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon (entry fee the responsibility of the racer).
