2018 Philadelphia Escape Triathlon Names Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Official Charity
PHILADELPHIA – (June 13, 2018) IMG, a global leader in sports, events, media and fashion, today announced Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a national cancer foundation dedicated to battling childhood cancer, as the official charity partner for the 2018 Philadelphia Escape Triathlon. This will be the first year Pennsylvania-based Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation will be involved in the Philadelphia Escape Triathlon. As the official charity, ALSF will offer lemonade and talk to participants all race weekend to raise awareness and funds to help fight childhood cancer.
“We’re excited to be involved with the Philadelphia Escape Triathlon,” said Liz Scott, co-executive director of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and Alex’s mom. “We’re grateful for the support of the event organizers and participants to this important cause – finding cures for all kids with cancer.”
Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004) is the inspiration behind ALSF. Before her first birthday, Alex was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer. At age four, Alex announced she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since that first stand, the foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement with thousands of volunteers across the country. ALSF has raised more than $150 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure and funding more than 800 research projects nationally since its inception.
The 14th annual Philadelphia Escape Triathlon is set to take place on Sunday, June 24. Fairmount Park will host the scenic, challenging course, which takes participants on a 1.5k fast swim in the Schuylkill River, a 40k bike ride through historic sections of Philadelphia and on a 10k run past the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art “Rocky Steps”, made famous in the Oscar-winning film Rocky. The event features Olympic, sprint and AquaBike races, as well as a two-day Fitness Festival.
As part of the Escape Triathlon Series, this race will serve as a qualifier for the 2019 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. The Philadelphia Escape Triathlon is owned and produced by IMG. For more information, visit escapeseriestri.com/philadelphia-escape or follow on www.facebook.com/EscapeSeriesTri,
About Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $150 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 800 pediatric cancer research projects nationally. In addition, ALSF provides support to families affected by childhood cancer through programs such as Travel For Care and SuperSibs.
