Nation’s Escape Triathlon Continues Partnership With Potomac Conservancy To Promote Clean Water And Conservation

WASHINGTON D.C. – (August 28, 2018) IMG, a global leader in sports, events, media and fashion, today announced Nation’s Escape Triathlon will continue its partnership with Potomac Conservancy, the region’s leading clean water advocate. For the second year running, Potomac Conservancy, which is dedicated to combating water quality challenges in the Potomac River, will return as an official partner of the event.

“By partnering with the Nation’s Escape Triathlon, we raise awareness amongst the participants and spectators that we can all take actions to ensure cleaner water such as volunteering and supporting local initiatives that stop pollution as we work together to restore the river,” said Potomac Conservancy President Hedrick Belin. “This partnership is dedicated to providing a Potomac River that is safe enough to swim in on race day and every other day of the year.”

The Potomac Conservancy’s 2018 Potomac River Report Card, a science-based assessment of the river’s health, shows that the river is on its way to recovery. The most recent report gave the river a B grade, the highest grade ever, showing a dramatic improvement from a D to a B in just 10 years.

West Potomac Park will host the challenging 2018 Nation’s Escape Triathlon Olympic distance race, which takes participants on a 1.5k swim in the historic Potomac River, near Arlington Cemetery and under Memorial Bridge; a 40k flat and fast bike ride past the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial and Kennedy Center; and on a challenging and beautiful 10k single loop run past the Jefferson Memorial, National Holocaust Museum, U.S. Mint, Tidal Basin and more. Weekend activities include Olympic and sprint races, as well as a sports and fitness expo.

Set to take place on Sunday, September 9, the Nation’s Escape Triathlon will again serve as a qualifying race for the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Each qualifying race will award the top male and female finishers per age group a race entry into the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon (entry fee the responsibility of the racer). Nation’s Escape Triathlon is owned and produced by IMG. For additional information, visit, @escapeseriestri on Instagram and Twitter and, on YouTube.
